Blog from Lisa Dickson of our Private Client team and mum of Rafe -18 months

There’s been a lot of coverage in the media in recent months about the importance of making a will, but if you are in your 20s or 30s and are perhaps struggling to get onto the property ladder, have spent all of your savings on nappies and baby wipes and feel that have nothing of any value to leave to anybody, you may be thinking why would I need to make a Will?
But are you forgetting your most prized asset?

Did you know that by making a will, you can personally choose who you would want to care for your child or children if something were to happen to you? As a parent of a gorgeous, energetic and mischievous 18 month old boy, I know that this is not a subject that any parents want to dwell on. But it is a subject that every responsible parent should consider, as it enables you to make proper provision for the right person to look after your little cherubs.
It always surprises me to read that two thirds of people die without having made a will. As parents, everything we do is for the good of our children and we constantly try to give them the best in life, so why not ensure that they carry on receiving the best care if something unexpected happened to us?

At Birchall Blackburn Law we can give you expert, affordable and accessible advice in making a will to best protect your children. All our team and offices are child friendly so we would love to see you and your little cherubs!
