People in Lancashire living with dementia can now access an expert list of legal advisors
A nationwide list of solicitors has been launched by Alzheimer’s Research UK to help people locate local lawyers who have experience of working with those living with dementia and their families.
Two partners from Birchall Blackburn Law, which has offices in Preston, Leyland, Morecambe, Chester, Manchester, Southport and Chorley have been included on the charity’s UK list.
Cathy MacCracken and Rosemary Johns are experienced members of Solicitors for the Elderly (SFE) and have helped many to make decisions about Wills, Powers of Attorney, planning for care and other legal issues.
Rosemary is also a member of the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners (STEP) while Cathy is one of only nine solicitors in the North West to be appointed to the Court of Protection’s Panel of Deputies.
Partner at BB Law, Cathy MacCracken, commented: “Our placement on the list gives clients and their families access to the experts when it comes to making important decisions.
“Discovering that you or a loved one has dementia is traumatic but making decisions as soon as possible following diagnosis about finances, health and welfare allows people to concentrate on living life.”
She added: “At BB Law, we strive to make things much easier for clients. We appreciate that someone with dementia may experience a range of different physical and mental difficulties that can affect their day to lives.
“We not only provide a dementia-friendly environment but our team are also trained to understand clients’ specialist needs and have tailored the way we communicate to each individual’s requirements.”
Birchall Blackburn Law is committed to raising awareness of dementia and caring for those affected by it. The firm’s private client team are all Dementia Friends, a programme run by the Alzheimer’s Society to turn understanding into action.
Two partners are also Dementia Champions and run information sessions in the community, inspiring others to help those living with dementia to live well.
It is also a founding member of the South Ribble Dementia Action Alliance group, which has pledged to help transform the quality of life of people living with dementia in the South Ribble area and the hundreds of people who care for them.
