Clive Hird, a member of the Personal Injury legal team at North West-based law firm, Birchall Blackburn, and friends have successfully completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks 12 Hour Challenge, in response to their local church’s recent fundraising plea to the local community.
St Luke’s Church in Farnworth, which is over 800 years old and a Grade 2 listed building, has been attempting since September last year to raise more than £250,000 to meet the costs of urgent and extensive repairs to the church’s roof, as well as remedial work to damage caused by recent vandalism and lead theft.
It again appealed to local residents and businesses earlier this year to help it to raise the final £75,000 of the much-needed funds to support the project before it was too late and the roof collapsed.
Whilst none of the team who took part in the arduous Challenge attends the Church, they all saw the church’s plea in the local press and were impelled to support this local community fundraising project.
The team completed its 25 mile Three Peak Challenge in 9 hours 42 minutes, well within the permitted 12 hour time, and raising more than £300 for the St Luke’s SOS Campaign.
