GB Paraclimber Sianagh Gallagher tells us about her inspiration and wanting to live in the jungle

Sianagh GallagherIn the run up to the IFSC Paraclimbing World Championships, September 14-18, we are profiling the GB Paraclimbing Team who have been training all year to be in a strong position to challenge for a podium place at the Paris event.

Thanks to a sponsorship deal with Birchall Blackburn Law, the GB Paraclimbing team is able to compete in a number of international competitions this year, including the all-important World Championships.

Sianagh Gallagher, aged 19, is from York and has been climbing since she was 10. She first reached for the wall when her primary school set up a climbing club.

What advice would you give to anyone who wants to start climbing?

Don’t be afraid to take a chance and you’ll fall in love with this addictive sport! Anyone can try it!

Where is your favourite place to climb?

The Red Goat climbing wall in York.

What is your proudest moment?

Coming third in the World Championships in 2014.

What is the toughest lesson you have learned?

You don’t get good at things overnight. You need to put in the hard work and then you’ll see results.

What are your goals for the future?

To get first at the World Championships or hopefully a gold medal in the Paralympics! Maybe wishful thinking but it can’t hurt to be positive.

Who inspires you and why?

My teammates inspire me. They have so much determination and every person is different. I love how we all psych each other up!

What other sport would you like to try if climbing did not exist and why?

Probably gymnastics. I love watching it on telly and would’ve loved to give it a try.

If you had to eat the same meal every day for the rest of your life. What would it be?

Sausage and mash.

If you could be a character in any film who or what would it be?

Mowgli from The Jungle Book. Living in the jungle with talking animals seems pretty awesome.

Which member of the GB Paraclimbing team makes you laugh the most and why?

Martin Heald, his one-liners are funny and he is very good at making me laugh in times of stress.

Which member of the GB Para-Climbing team talks the most and what do they talk about?

Isabella Walsh. She talks a lot when she’s nervous and asks ssssoooo many questions – bless her!
