St Catherine’s Wills Week boosted by Birchall Blackburn Law

Law firm’s support gives hospice funds a boost

Wills Week St. Catherine's hospiceA Lancashire hospice’s funds have been boosted by more than £6,500 following support from law firm Birchall Blackburn Law.

The firm teamed up with St Catherine’s Hospice in Lostock Hall, near Preston, for its annual Wills Week, waiving its will-writing fees in return for a donation to the charity.

During the week-long initiative, experts from Birchall Blackburn Law’s Preston, Chorley and Leyland offices wrote 70 wills – 20 more than when they were involved last year– raising £6,772 for the charity.

Cathy MacCracken, partner at Birchall Blackburn Law and an expert in private client services for the elderly, said: “We are very proud to have once again been involved in this excellent fundraising drive and are thrilled to have helped raise so much money for the hospice. We’ve taken part for a number of years and aim to try and increase the amount raised every year.

“It was very rewarding for the whole team to be involved in this initiative and our clients had a very clear desire to support the hospice. St Catherine’s Hospice is a cause close to so many people’s hearts and a charity we are delighted to support.”

Lorraine Charlesworth, director of community and income at St Catherine’s Hospice, said: “Wills Week is such an important and worthwhile campaign for us, as it helps to raise an amazing amount of funds for St Catherine’s each year, as well as raising awareness of the hospice, and encouraging people to make a will to ensure that their wishes are recorded.

“More than £25,000 has been handed to the charity this year, taking the grand total raised for St Catherine’s since Wills Week started in 2011 to an incredible £88,680.

“We’d like to thank solicitors, including Birchall Blackburn Law, as well as everyone who made an appointment and supported the hospice with a donation, for making the 2016 Wills Week such a success.”
