It seems that not a week goes by without a heart-breaking news story about the mistreatment, abuse or neglect of elderly people in residential care homes.
I’m a working mum so I carefully researched local nurseries, before selecting the one that I felt would best look after the most precious thing in the world to me, my little boy. One of the biggest factors in my final decision was that the nursery had a network of CCTV cameras. This means that I can log on to a secure website from my mobile phone and monitor my little boy’s safety and wellbeing throughout the day.
We all have our own opinions on a ‘Big Brother Society’ and there must be the right balance of preserving people’s privacy and dignity and promoting their safety, but maybe the sensitive use of webcam and monitors would be a step in the right direction to put an end to the neglect and mistreatment of our elderly or vulnerable members of our society?
