Masked Revellers in Chester Town Hall Raise £9,700 for Head Injury Charity

IMG_9944 smlMore than £9,700 has been raised for the vital work of The Head Injury People (HIP) in Cheshire by masked partygoers at a glamorous gala ball held in Chester’s historic town hall.

HIP in Cheshire is an inspiring charity that helps and supports survivors, their families, friends and carers. The charity aims to reduce loneliness and isolation for people with brain injuries, and improve the quality of life of families trying to cope in the aftermath of a head injury.

Clare Emerton, Charity Fundraiser and Co-ordinator for HIP in Cheshire, says: “It was a wonderful night and we owe a huge thank you to everyone who came and donated so generously.

“You can’t underestimate the difference the money will make to the members of HIP in Cheshire. It is crucial funding for our work. In many cases if we weren’t here for people with head injuries, the alternative is isolation, loneliness and depression.”

IMG_9945 smlNearly 2,500 people a year in Cheshire suffer a head injury and for many it changes their lives drastically. For family and friends, the survivor’s visible and hidden disabilities can put a great strain on life, which can be relieved by meeting with others through HIP in Cheshire who are in a similar situation.

More than 140 people filled the 19th Century Town Hall for the Masquerade Ball, which was sponsored by Birchall Blackburn Law and Sugro UK.

Dianne Yates, Partner and Head of Serious and Catastrophic Injury for Birchall Blackburn Law, says: “We had such a fantastic night and it was great to be a part of the team making it happen. We felt particularly at home in the Town Hall’s former court room!

“The members of HIP in Cheshire are a wonderful and inspiring group of people coping with life changing disabilities. In many cases these changes are neurological and can’t be seen, which makes the work of HIP in Cheshire even more important to promote understanding and prevent social exclusion.”

Philip Jenkins, Sugro UK’s managing director, says: “This is the second year that we’ve sponsored HIP in Cheshire’s annual ball and it was even bigger and better underwritten with care and attention for the charity. It was great to see the community and companies come together to not only raise funds but to also celebrate the achievements of the members of HIP in Cheshire. They are an extraordinary group of people building new lives after a devastating accident or illness and HIP in Cheshire is a lifeline for them.”
