We spoke to our wonderful Marketing Assistant Elliott Garvey about his natural talents for photography, Marvel and why he enjoys working at Birchall Blackburn Law/ the National Asbestos Helpline…
Hi Elliott! So, how did you get started in marketing/ what was your first marketing role?
Hello! My first foray into the world of marketing was when I had work experience for a marketing agency in Manchester. It was quite an eye opening experience, I didn’t realise how interesting and broad an area marketing could be!
So why Birchall Blackburn Law/ NAH, what drew you to the company?
BBL is a very client-friendly firm, and the position gives me the opportunity to learn new skills.
How long have you been in your current role?
Coming up to 4 and a half years! I’ve learnt a lot during my time here, especially in content curation. I try and teach myself as much as possible outside of work, too; I’m currently studying for a marketing qualification – a Certificate of Professional Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).
Do you enjoy it?
Definitely! I’m enjoying the creative side of my role and it has let me meet a lot of people I normally wouldn’t outside of work.
Any sports or hobbies?
I have a good camera and I enjoy going out at the weekends to take a few photos. I also really enjoy messing around on image editing software, like Photoshop or Lightroom, as well as InDesign and Illustrator for some of the more design-orientated things I do for fun.
I don’t get as much time to do it as I’d like, but sitting down with a good book is something I find really relaxing and enjoyable, as I’m sure many others do too.
What’s your favourite book?
The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien – I’ve read that too many times!
What’s your favourite film(s)?
Okay, I can’t choose just one, but anything with great cinematography – so many of the Coen brothers’ films and a lot of the Tarantino ones. I’m also a sucker for the spate of Marvel superhero movies and a good psychological thriller.
Chocolate or crisps?
Usually I go for something more savoury, but if I HAD to pick between just these two, it would be chocolate every time!
Autumn – I just love the colours and how everything around you changes.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
Probably the ability to fly. Telekinesis would be a very close second, but it just doesn’t have that “excitement” factor to it.
What’s your favourite genre of music?
Honestly, anything and everything. I listen to all sorts; if I was to stick something on in the car on the way home from work, it would probably be something like an alt-rock (‘mon the Biff!) or indie band.
