We had a great catch up with Serious Injury Solicitor Antonia Riley from our Manchester office – and we thought you would like to hear about why she chose law as a career and her fantastic taste in films…
What inspired you to work in law?
My father and older sister are both criminal defence lawyers. They always told stories of their work and I thought it was interesting. I also think my personality lends itself to a career in law which is why after working in banking for 10 years I decided to take the plunge.
Why did you choose to specialise in personal injury?
I did a seat on my Training Contract and really enjoyed it.
Why Birchall Blackburn Law?
I relocated from Leicestershire and wanted to stay within the claimant side of personal injury.
How do you cope with the emotional nature of personal injury?
By reminding myself that I am here to get the best result for the client and not to get absorbed by my own emotions. It is very rewarding to have a positive impact on a client’s quality of life and makes this a very worthwhile area to practice in.
What’s your favourite thing about your job?
Helping vulnerable client’s get the compensation they deserve.
Any sports or hobbies?
I play tennis and enjoy attending concerts and music festivals.
What’s your favourite food?
What music do you listen to?
I have a very eclectic taste in music which comes from playing several instruments. I listen to pretty much everything…
Have you got a favourite book?
Paulo Coelho – The Alchemist
This is a hard one as I love movies and couldn’t possibly pick just one favourite. To name a few, I would say: The Shawshank Redemption, Apocalypto, Forrest Gump and Pretty Woman (guilty pleasure!).
Who or what inspires you?
What do you want to be remembered for?
Other than being a generally good person…I haven’t decided yet.
Have you got any unusual facts?
Nothing I can think of at this moment!
What’s the biggest misconception about lawyers that you’ve heard?
That we are worse than bankers!
What is something you can’t live without?
As much as I love material things…it would definitely be my friends and family. They are my support system and I would not have achieved the things I have done personally or in my career without them.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
