John McKenzie

After finishing my degree in International Business with Languages I embarked upon a career in Accountancy after enjoying the finance and accounting elements of the course. Being drawn to Management Accounting because of its strategic focus I decided to advance my career and by pursuing the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) qualification. After working in the legal sector for a couple of years I joined Birchall Blackburn as Financial Controller in 2015 and moved to Head of Finance in 2022.

What aspect of your job do you find most rewarding?

I enjoy the strategic aspect of my role. Working with all different areas of the business and being able to influence key business decisions and see the tangible results is incredibly rewarding. Every day brings new challenges, and I enjoy using my skills to help drive business success.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

When I get the chance I like to go hiking in the countryside. My challenge for 2024 was to climb all of the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales all separately which I completed this summer!
